My first!!

So heres my first blog...I actually used to have one on livejournal.com but I eventually got bored and lazy so I quit updating it. But now, I'm actually required to make one for my Journalism 330 class! Imagine that...blogging being part of my education...what is the world coming to? lol jk, actually this is one of the easiest and most enjoyable assignments I've had. I get to talk about myself while knowing that at least one person will read it lol.

Not a whole lot is going on with me right now so I guess I'll just start with some background info. I'm 19, its my second year at Marshall University and I'm a public relations major. Before my senior year of high school I had never even considered PR. All through high school I had wanted to be a lawyer, I see now that it would have NEVER worked out. I guess I'm just not very legal minded...nor am I anxious to spend like 8 years in school.

I'm thinking about moving to Huntington soon, which would be a switch for me because I'm from Wayne WV. Its only about 30 min from Huntington though, so I commute almost everyday. I used to live in Huntington when I was like 8, but then I moved to Wayne and at first I HATED it. Its extremely small, like 1000 ppl...maybe lol. My high school only had about 600 students which was something I actually liked. I guess I hated it because it was so boring, the main attraction is Walmart...seriously lol. We have one red light (its by Walmart), a Wendy's, A KFC, and a Subway (which is inside the walmart). My boyfriend's family owns pretty much everything, his uncle is the mayor, he owns the Pioneer Restaurant, Pioneer Auto Sales, Pioneer Estates, Pioneer Apartments, Pioneer Storage etc etc etc. Most of his family works for the town, or for his uncle in one of the afor mentioned businesses. They have a stigma attatched to them, like they're the Wayne County Mafia or something...but its not like that, they're actually great people once you get to know them.

So you're probably wondering "Whats with Pioneer everything?". The Pioneer is the mascot of our elementary, middle and high schools and most importantly, the football team. Wayne is most definetely a football town. On Friday nights, the game is PACKED and NO ONE misses it. Football season was my favorite time during high school, my boyfriend was a captain his senior year so I got to experience all the football craziness and drama firsthand. I spent so much time with all those boys, and I came to love almost all of them. Perhaps Wayne is so Pioneer crazy because our football team really is good. We've had a ton of perfect seasons and my senior year we went to state. We didn't win but it was still a big deal. During that weekend, the town died because everyone was in Wheeling. People have so much pride in the team and put so much effort into showing it. Signs were EVERYWHERE, on every telephone pole, store window and billboard. Every Saturday the lead story in the paper was about Friday's game. The boys were treated like royalty everywhere they went. I really miss it.

What I miss most of all about high school was the routine of it all. Every morning I parked in the same spot, in front of the 300 hall, between my boyfriend's and best friend's cars. I knew exactly who would be waiting for me at the end of that hall when I came through the door, and I ate lunch with the same people everyday. We were all good friends, and I've remained friends with most of them. The majority of us went to Marshall, and the rest to surrounding colleges. I hated Wayne at first, but I grew to love it and its where I plan to raise a family someday. Its small and compact, and filled with family restaurants and businesses and friendly people that ask you how or mom or grandmother, aunt, uncle, cousin, etc are doing. I really love it now and thats why I'm hesitant to move....

Oh well, I guess I'll figure it out......stay tuned for more of my oh so interesting life..lol.
